Noxious Weeds

To manage and control Council's noxious weeds operations and to establish strategies and statements to control noxious weeds in accordance with the Noxious Weeds Act 1993 within the Shire.



The Riverina Local Land Services (LLS) is hosting a number of public consultation information sessions next week to provide details on the Draft Riverina Regional Strategic Weed Management Plan which will operate for the next five years.

This draft weed management plan has been designed to comply with the new NSW Biosecurity Act, which replaces the Noxious Weeds Act.

There will be meetings held at Cootamundra and Gundagai next week on Tuesday.

The times and venues for these meetings are:

Tuesday 14 February 10am-12noon:           Cootamundra Ex-Servicemen’s & Citizens Memorial Club.

Tuesday 14 February 2pm – 4pm:                Gundagai District Services Club

Other meetings across the Riverina will be held at:

Wagga: Wednesday 15 February at the Wagga RSL Club (Pacific Room)

West Wyalong: Thursday 16 February at the West Wyalong Service & Citizens Club

Griffith: Thursday 16 February at the Griffith Ex-Services Club

Lockhart: Friday 17 February at the Lockhart Ex-Servicemen’s Club

Coolamon: Friday 17 February at the Coolamon Sport & Recreation Club

Senior staff from Riverina LLS Biosecurity team will be presenting the Draft Plan and answering questions.

Any person with an interest in weed management is invited to attend these meetings.

Hard copies of the full weed management plan will be available at the information sessions, and will be available at all Local Land Services offices and Local Council offices.

The LLS representatives are looking forward to seeing a wide variety of community representatives at the meetings and discussing Weed Management in the Riverina region.

Noxious Weeds Policy

Endorsed 14th June 2011

Council is required under the Noxious Weeds Act 1993 to control and eradicate noxious weeds in the Shire from:

  • Council owned land (roadside spray included)
  • Privately owned land including landowners and lessees
  • Crown land on behalf of the State Government

Pesticide Notification Plan

This plan can be downloaded below or a copy can be obtained from the council.

Emergency Pesticides Use

Emergency applications of pesticides in public areas for problems of dangerous insect's that pose an immediate danger of public health and safety, Council will, where possible, post signs in the vicinity of the application.

In the event of pesticide application in an emergency situation in a sensitive area to control a dangerous pest infestation, the Council will organize a door-knock (in a reasonable amount of time) prior to the application of pesticide.
