RIVERINA REGIONAL TOURISM SECURES ADDITIONAL FUNDING

This year has started on a positive note for tourism operators and related businesses in the Riverina

with news that additional funding has been secured aimed at promoting the fantastic food, wine and

agricultural tourism experiences in the region.

Under the NSW Government’s Regional Visitor Economy Fund, Riverina Regional Tourism (RRT) has

been successful in obtaining a grant of $171,500 to help increase overnight visitation and visitor spend

in the region. The Fund which is managed and administered by the State’s tourism and major events

agency Destination NSW, provides investment into the regional visitor economy on a matched dollarfor-

dollar basis.

Chair of RRT, Mr Greg Lawrence said he was pleased that the funding has been guaranteed for a

further 12 months. It will assist RRT in positioning the Riverina as a must-visit food, wine and

agricultural tourism destination.

“This is the third consecutive year that RRT has been successful in obtaining this grant, bringing the

total funding received from the NSW Government to well over $500,000. With matched funds

contributed by member Councils and industry partners, by the end of 2016, RRT will have invested

more than $1 million over three years to raise the profile of the Riverina,” Mr Lawrence explained.

“There has been a steady growth in the Riverina’s tourism industry in recent years and the extension of

funding arrangements will ensure that the growth continues in the future.”

Executive Officer of RRT, Ms Sonia Casanova said RRT have undertaken some innovative promotions,

which will continue in 2016.

“RRT’s Inside the Riverina digital magazine, published seasonally, has attracted the attention of

journalists and bloggers across the country and resulted in some great publicity for our region. Our

‘Reunite in the Riverina’ promotion, aimed at encouraging locals to invite their family and friends to visit,

also proved very popular and resulted in a return on investment of over 15:1,” Ms Casanova said.

“RRT’s partnership with Wotif saw us promote the Riverina to well over a million people through their

website and e-newsletters. And the jewel in the crown, the annual Taste Riverina Festival, attracted

over 50,000 guests at events held during October.”

Tourism operators are encouraged to connect with RRT through their local Tourism Manager.
